The Ghimire Home
Lamatar Village
Expectations Exceeded
The first project we ran was as Future Nepal, we have since become a registered charity and changed the name to Involve Nepal. This trip was driven by a combination of two things; Amelia’s wish to re-build a home for the lovely family that had put her up in 2010 and Matt’s desire to continue relief work out in Nepal.
It had cost around £6,000 to build a house with 4 rooms so we decided to fundraise. With help from artist Tom Cox, a silent art auction was held, and alongside crowdfunding… a total of just over £12,000 was raised.
As we exceeded our target, we were fortunate enough to fund one year’s university education for the two sons of this family and also put three children into school from the village we worked in in 2015.
The family home is still well maintained, the sons have graduated university with fantastic grades and the kids are making progress in school.

Increased capacity and a safer journey to school
As a result of the 2015 earthquakes destroying part of this school, many children were forced to drop out or to enrol in another school further away. With the steeply terraced land and long school bus rides, road accidents are not uncommon. It is therefore much more favourable for children to attend a school which is local. We chose to work with this particular one as it’s accessible to children from many parts of the district without the dangerous commute to Kathmandu.
We constructed 1 building with 4 classrooms, taking the total number of classrooms to 7. The potential capacity of pupils has doubled, from 45 to 90. Full report available here

2 schools, 3 projects
Nearly 13,000 children die every year due to diarrhoea-related diseases & only 45% of Nepal’s population has access to toilets, according to the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF). We chose to work with these two schools as although their main buildings are in good condition, some basic amenities were missing. Bhairabi School had no drinking water and no toilets, and Mahendragram School toilets were completely run down. The poor provision of these facilities is a strong disincentive for pupils to attend. The dropout rate can be especially high among girls. Full report available here
We have built urinals, lockable toilet cubicles, sinks, and installed a safe drinking water facility. We will work with the staff to promote hand washing and good hygiene. Overall there has been a reduction in waterborne diseases and better attendance in schools.
